Exercise - Simple Present 4

Level A1

Write the correct form of the verbs in brackets. Use the simple present.

In all the sentences in this exercise, the third-person singular form (he/she/it form) is required. Note the rules for forming this verb form:

For most verbs, -s is added.

write → writes

For verbs ending in -ch, -s, -sh and -x, the ending -es is added.

touch → touches

For verbs ending in a consonant (b, c, d, f …) and -y, the he/she/it form is formed with the ending -ies.

carry → carries

BUT: play → plays (Vowel + y)

Note the exceptions:

go → goes

do → does

have → has

The verb to be is the only verb in the simple present tense that has three different forms.

I am

you/we/they are

he/she/it is
