English Exercise - Word order A1 (3)
Level A1
Drag the words into the correct boxes to make natural sentences.
Grammar rules
Note the usual word order in affirmative sentences:
Subject – Verb – Object – Place – Time
The boys (S) play (V) football (O) in the park (P) after school (T).
She (S) meets (V) her friends (O) at the bus stop (P) every day (T).
Adverbs of frequency (always, sometimes, never, etc.) come before most verbs, but after a form of to be.
He always rides his bike to school.
She is never late.
Note the word order with questions:
• with the auxiliary verb do: do/does + subject + infinitive without to
Do they play football in the park?
• with can and other modal verbs (must, may, etc.): modal verb + subject + infinitive without to
Can they play football after school?
• with have got: have/has + subject + got
Have they got a new football?
