one knife (Singular) – two knives (Plural)
Her best friend has got beautiful hair.
Hair im Sinne von Haare (generell) ist ein nicht zählbares Nomen und wird nicht im Plural verwendet. Hair kann im Plural verwendet werden, wenn wir von einzelnen Haaren sprechen.
The police are investigating the cause of the fire.
Police ist im Englischen immer ein Nomen im Plural.
Amanda bought a skirt and a pair of trousers.
Paarwörter wie trousers, jeans etc. können nur mit der Ergänzung pair of gemeinsam mit a oder one verwendet werden.
Do we need tomatoes for the pizza?
one tomato (Singular) – two tomatoes (Plural)
The match attracted more than 50.000 people.
Als Plural von person verwenden wir in der Regel people.
The furniture in our living room is made of wood.
Furniture (Möbel) ist ein nicht zählbares Nomen und steht immer im Singular → is
We are expecting some rain in the afternoon.
Nicht zählbare Nomen wie rain können mit some verwendet werden, aber nicht mit a oder an.
The thieves broke into our house and stole some money.
one thief (Singular) – two thieves (Plural)
I did not have enough time to tidy my room.
Time ist ein nicht zählbares Nomen und wird in der Regel nicht im Plural verwendet.

Sugar ist ein nicht zählbares Nomen und wird nicht im Plural verwendet.
The water is too hot to drink.
Auf nicht zählbare Nomen folgt ein Verb im Singular.
Did the children brush their teeth?
Beachte die unregelmäßige Pluralbildung: one tooth – many teeth
The baby should not play with the scissors.
Paarwörter wie scissors, trousers etc. werden nicht im Singular verwendet.
The men are waiting for the train to Luton.
The men (Plural) → are
We had to wait a few minutes before we could enter the building.
Auf (a) few folgt ein zählbares Nomen im Plural.
The police warn tourists to watch their belongings.
Police ist im Englischen immer ein Nomen im Plural.
Cook the potatoes for about half an hour.
Beachte die Pluralbildung: one potato – many potatoes
Would you like a slice of bread?
Bread ist ein nicht zählbares Nomen und wird nicht im Plural verwendet.
The cat is trying to catch a mouse.
Auf a und an folgt immer ein Nomen im Singular: one mouse – many mice
