Exercise | Correct the Mistakes: Adjectives and Adverbs

There are ten mistakes in the twelve sentences. Mark the incorrect words and check your answers. Go to the next page and correct the mistakes in the gaps. Two of the sentences are correct.
Explanations of the mistakes
The joke was so funny that we couldn´t stop laughing.
To be describes a state. It is followed by an adjective.
All the students passed the English exam easily.
For adjectives ending in -y, the adverb is formed with the ending -ily.
They will not succeed if they don´t work hardly.
The adjective hard has two adverb forms:
hard → difficult, tough
hardly → barely, just
Why is the green car driving so slowly?
Describes the verb (is driving) – the manner in which something is done → Adverb
Julie always smiles in a friendly way/manner.
With friendly and other adjectives ending in -ly (lovely, silly, lonely …), an adverbial form cannot be formed (NOT: friendlily). Instead, a paraphrase using ‘in a … way/manner’ must be used.
You should not wait for the perfect moment.
Describes the noun (moment) → Adjective
Our team played very well and won the match.
The adjective good has an irregular adverb form → well (NOT: goodly)
Note: Well can also be an adjective with a different meaning (‘healthy, in good health’).
Liam wants to buy two black shirts.
In English, adjectives cannot form a plural form.
The pasta in the new Italian restaurant tasted delicious.
Sense verbs such as smell or taste are followed by an adjective.
Exception: When these verbs describe an action – ‘to smell something’, ‘to taste something’ – they are followed by an adverb.
It started to rain heavily during our hike.
